I grew up in Toronto and did my undergraduate degree at York University. I then went to the University of Calgary and did my Masters and Doctoral degrees with Dr. Penny Pexman. Following that I held a SSHRC funded postdoc at University College London with Dr. Gabriella Vigliocco. I began at Carleton University in July of 2022.
There are few things I love more than thinking through research ideas and questions. I am fascinated by language and its relationship with the mind.
But you probably know all that! Here are some other things about me.
I play guitar and my two favourite guitarists are Slash and John Frusciante. One I day hope to be able to play the outro of November Rain at full speed. But these days my fingers do more typing than fretting.
I’m also obsessed with The Beatles. The White Album is my favourite album of theirs, though pound for pound I prefer Rubber Soul.
There are two books that I think played a big role in leading me to this career: “Labyrinths” by Jorge Luis Borges and “Invisible Cities” by Italo Calvino. Some of my other favourite authors are Steven Millhauser, Susanna Clarke and David Mitchell.
I’m a big TV watcher, and somehow all of my favourite TV shows start with the letter S (The Sopranos, Survivor, Succession, Seinfeld, The Simpsons, and Star Trek TNG).
